[edit] Strategy
Trools can hit a lot in close combat, they also gain AP each time you take their MP, gain MP each time you take their AP, and can restore their HP if hit with a Physical attack (Neutral or Earth). All of this makes them formidable foes. There are several general strategies to killing them:
With low MP and with only a close combat attack it is possible to keep the Trool out of attacking range by leading it in circles. Having more MP than them is always a help, as they will catch up to you on corners.
Having a pushback spell is very useful when fighting Trools. Spells such as Retreat Arrow, Felintion, Intimidation, Tricky Blow, Fear, Release, Frightening Word, or Blow are all big helps at keeping a Trool at bay.
Another technique is to either take a Trools AP or MP. If you take their MP they will end up with a massive amount of AP, though this is small worry if they never get up to you. Likewise if you take their AP they will have a massive amount of MP so try to surround them first. Characters that can unbewitch can remove this concern.
You can also try locking the Trool, then either tricking it into dodge locking or just healing the locker.
Always remember that you may get a critical failure once in a while. Always make sure you are out of the Trools range just in case. Trools can take ages and so you'll need to make dozens - if not hundreds - of attacks. Statistically, you're very likely to fail a few and if the trool catches up to you, you could wind up dead. Plan accordingly.
